What to wear to your family photos!

You have the photographer hired. You probably have the location picked out. Now, the next big question...WHAT TO WEAR?
As a photographer, I get asked this question a lot. I absolutely LOVE being involved in the process of helping a family decide what to wear. I actually would encourage more of my clients to let me help them a little more. You have made an invest & you want your family to look its best! Maybe it's just for a Christmas card, but maybe you'll end up printing a big canvas for your living room.

 Have a vision in mind. Can you imagine what you'd like your card to look like, or how the canvas on the wall is going to match/flow with your decor? What style do your want for your session? Casual? Dressy? Start with that; keeping your location in mind. You probably don't want to be in a dress & suit and be standing in front of a graffiti wall.
 Now time for outfits! My number ONE tip is to pick mom's outfit first! If mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy! Find something that you feel most comfortable in. If you feel good, it will show in your photos and you will be guaranteed to look good!
Next, find a few colors that coordinate, but aren't too matchy matchy. Try to stay away from everyone wearing the same color top. No all black & no all white!!! You can use a little, but try not too use a lot.
Try to stick to mostly solids. You can use a gingham/plaid, stripe or pattern, but limit it to about 2 pieces and not two of the same. Also, no character shirts or shirts with big logos. :)
 Accessories are a great way to tie all the colors together and make them flow. And mom, don't be afraid to wear your fake lashes and go a little heavier on the make up!
Don't be afraid to go for those bold jewel tones! They photograph really well!
A few more things to keep in mind. If your location is very green, don't wear green, especially light green. If you are going to wear white, keep in mind that it picks up colors you stand next to very easily.
Here in Arizona, it might still be in the 90's in October, but that doesn't mean you can't pull in the fall colors, like brown, burnt orange and mustard. If you want it to feel like fall in your photos, then you need to dress the part.

And most importantly, talk to your photographer and let them help you make choices. If you are all on the same page and have the same vision, you have a better chance of receiving the photos that you had in mind.

Seriously? She kills me! She was not a fan of me at first, but after a few minutes, she warmed up to me. She was so happy and the lighting was absolutely gorgeous! Happy first birthday Juliana!

This handsome little fella won a free photo shoot with me. He was looking quite sharp and had a super contagious smile! He rocked it! I was really pleased with the outcome of the photos!

Miss E {San Tan Valley, Arizona, Newborn Photographer, Laura Blue Photography}

Miss E was such a sweet little thing! I really love the coral and teal colors that her mama wanted. She was such a pretty baby and nearly perfect skin. Makes editing go by so much faster for me.
